- Counter-flashing typically refers to sheet metal installed over a waterproofing membrane/system. Some counter-flashings do not need to be sealed, if the design includes membrane below the sheet metal counter-flashing. Sealant shall be installed if required by the design. Counter-flashings should be sloped to shed water or installed as per design.
